
On Saturday the 2nd of April 2011, the volunteering action was organised for clearing of the overgrown vegetation of the narrow-gauge trackbed. For this action where gathered over 200 people including 17 scouts from Ghelari with two scout leaders, the volunteers from the Sibiu-Agnita railway, students from a university from Cluj-Napoca and the youth association from Hunedoara. The volunteers where split in four teams: two teams worked on the trackbed near Zlaşti before the 747 meter tunnel, one team worked on the trackbed beyond the 747 meter tunnel and the Catana halt, and the scouts team worked on the trackbed at Nădrab beyond Govăjdia. Saturday on the 2nd of April 2011 a volunteering action will be organised meant to clear the vegetation off the narrow-gauge trackbed. This action is meant to raise the attention of the authorities and to show an example from the civil society witch would want this line to have a comeback, aware of the tourist potential along with Corvin’s Castle, the Woodlander’s realm, the blast furnace at Govăjdia and the Iron Working museum. Everyone who wants to join and who can join this action is expected Saturday on the 2nd of April 2011 at 9 am in the yard of Corvin’s Castle in Hunedoara. Moving out to the trackbed will be at 10 am.

After perseverace by the local youth community on the local authorities, on Thursday, July the 22nd 2010 the committee sent by the ministry of culture to evaluate the condition of the line and classify-it as a technical category historical monument. The classification was given for one year, for the remaining structures and also the trackbed, time in witch the local authorities must create the final steps to classify-it as an A category historical monument, just like the national and international interest historical monuments. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Between Saturday the 5th and Sunday the 6th of June 2010 all the remaining sidewalk plates where stolen and sold for scrap from the 114 meter long viaduct over the Zlaşti valley…

Friday the 30th of April 2010, the last remaining metallic segment of the first curved bridge was removed and transported to Hocevar’s workshop at Crişcior for refurbishment.

Between the 15th and 19th of February 2010 the first curved bridge was dismantled. The first two bridge segments where removed and shipped to the Central workshops in Crişcior CFI Crişcior for refurbishment. The bridge segments will be installed where other operational narrow gauge lines exist.

4th of January 2010: The first curved bridge is ready for dismantling.

Between the 14th and 18th December 2009: All the remaining tracks and switches where removed from the front of the loco sheds, also the signal light near the first curved bridge was removed.

9th of October 2009: They have removed the track fasteners on the first curved bridge. The rails and the derailment preventors are endangered.

30th of September 2009: Monday and Tuesday they have taken away the last two hopper vagons and the last two L45H class locos to CFI Crişcior.

The 25th of September 2009: The dismantling of the line continues:

The rails where removed between the Hunedoara’s narrow gauge train station and the first curved bridge.

A bypass road was built around the first curved bridge.

The ramp for loading the rolling stock on to trucks.

The 19th of September 2009: Updated map with all that remains of the line you can find on the forum here along with some photos. As you can see, the dismantling continues, endangered are the two remaining bridges. Almost all the rolling stock had disappeared, in the photos the loading ramp can be seen, witch was used to load the rolling stock on to trucks.

The 10th of September 2009: The infrastructure is continued to be sold to CFI Crişcior near Brad in Hunedoara county.

The 4th of September 2009: The dismantling continues. All the track was removed from Hunedoara’s narrow gauge train station, the 114 meter long bridge is left without the railway ties.

The 2nd of September 2009: bad news; they have started the removal of the railway ties from the 114 meter long bridge, and they have mounted a warning sign on each end of the bridge saying ” Decomissioned bridge. Danger!”. Also they have started to scrap the track from the Hunedoara’s narrow gauge train station, up to the loco sheds.
